Premier League
Blackburn Rovers v Arsenal |

Picture this. A once great club losses its way, declines and falls from view, then suddenly re-emerges greater and more powerful, only to again fall once more. This is the story of Blackburn Rovers, the club that Jack built. Jack Walker. Millionaire Steel magnate who decided to spend his hard earned wealth on his greatest love: his hometown football team. And along with a team who would be champions, Jack bequeaved a re-born stadium where his fellow fans could come and worship. An investment in passion was never so quickly realised. But like all investments, value can go up as well as down, in Blackburn's case all the way out of the premier League down to the Nationwide. Many nodded their heads smuggly, relishing the demise of those they considered upstarts who had bought their way to the title. For some reason money in one pocket seemed dirtier than that in say the traditional pockets of another, and as such was to frowned upon. And yet without Jack Walkers money and passion for his club, Ewood Park would never have been redeveloped to todays standard ( three sides are excellent - suprisingly the fourth was not taken to the same level). |
